Omega-3 Fatty Acids are unsaturated fatty acids that play an important role in the human diet and in human physiology. The main food source of Omega-3 is fish (especially fatty ones like mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring). There are some plant sources like flaxseed, walnuts, soybeans but the fatty acid content is usually lower.
The health benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, approved by FSA:
- DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) contributes to maintenance of normal brain function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
- EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA.
- DHA maternal intake contributes to the normal brain development and normal development of the eye of the foetus and breastfed infants. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake for omega-3 fatty acids for adults (which is 250 mg DHA and EPA, so: 4 softgels daily in total).
To get enough Omega-3, we have to eat at least 2 portions of fish every week (as recommended by NHS) and we often don't do that. Therefore, taking Omega-3 supplements is a good way to ensure we give our bodies as much of it as they need. Our Omega-3 Softgel Capsules contain 1000mg of fish oil rich in EPA and DHA fatty acids, with added vitamin E as an antioxidant. One pack provides supply for up to 3 months.
