PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Omega-3, -6 and -9 are unsaturated fatty acids important for many bodily processes like building/rebuilding cells or creating and regulating hormones. Omega-3 and -6 cannot be produced by our bodies so we have to provide them with food we eat. Omega-9 are called 'non-essential' fatty acids as our bodies can produce them - however, consuming foods rich in Omega-9 may have health benefits. Omega-3 Acids are Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA); Omega-6: Linoleic Acid (LA); Omega-9: Oleic Acid (OA).
Here are some examples of foods rich in unsaturated Omega fatty acids:
- Omega-3: fish (esp. mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring), flaxseed, walnuts, soybeans;
- Omega-6: meat, walnuts, safflower oil, sunflower seeds, almonds, hemp seeds, eggs;
- Omega-9: vegetable and seed oils, olives, avocado, nuts.
You would have to eat more fish to provide as much Omega-3 as your body needs, remembering that fish (especially farmed fish) can contain heavy metals that could accumulate in your body. NHS recommends eating at least 2 portions of fish a week*.

The health benefit claims of Omega Fatty Acids approved by FSA are:
- DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) contributes to maintenance of normal brain function. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
- EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA.
- DHA maternal intake contributes to the normal brain development and normal development of the eye of the foetus and breastfed infants. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake for omega-3 fatty acids for adults (which is 250mg DHA and EPA, so 6 softgels daily in total).
Other known benefits observed in some clinical trials and other tests, but not approved:
- Omega-3: can lower the risk of arthritis, reduce inflammation;
- Omega-6: may support immune system and provide help in fighting eczema;
- Omega-9: may lower 'bad' cholesterol levels increasing 'good' one, also showing anti-inflammatory properties.
Our Omega 3 6 9 Oils Softgels contain Omega Acids in 6:4:1 proportion thus giving you more what's needed more (Omega-3 and Omega-6) also providing good levels of Omega-9. It has added Vitamin E as an antioxidant - it protects the oil in the softgels from going rancid, and also protects the cells in your body once swallowed.
