PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a non-toxic and more stable supplement form of Cysteine - an amino acid that, among other functions, has a vital role in replenishing one of the most powerful antioxidant in our bodies, glutathione. Glutathione helps to get rid of free radicals that cause damages to important molecules such as DNA and proteins. Your supply of glutathione tends to decrease as you get older. Compared to Cysteine, NAC has a higher bioavailability and is more absorbable therefore can be used by the body more efficiently.
Our bodies can produce Cysteine from other amino acids as long as those are supplied. There are also some types of food that are good sources of Cysteine such as poultry, yogurt, cheese, eggs, sunflower seeds, and some vegetables. As a supplement, NAC is thought to have a positive effect on our liver (detoxification), lungs (loosening mucus in our air passageways) and brain (memory function). Some researchers believe that it may even contribute to longevity - all these claims have not been approved in the UK by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) though.
